Mortar Calculator

Type both grid references. Add heights from the map if the ground isn't flat. Standard mortar only.

Elevation—mils
Bearing—degrees
Distance—metres
Flight—seconds

A grid reference is only as precise as its smallest box: keypad = 100 m, sub-keypad ≈ 33 m. Walk the rounds in from the first splash.

How grid references work

Every map is cut into 300 m squares: letters across the top, numbers down the side, so D6 is one square. Each square splits into a keypad of nine 100 m boxes, numbered like a keyboard's number pad (7 top-left, 3 bottom-right). Each keypad box splits the same way again. D6-7-3 means square D6, top-left box, then its bottom-right corner.

Contact report

What · Where · How many

"Contact, infantry, north-east, 200 metres, in the treeline, about five."

Short and useful. Direction from you, or a grid for the whole squad.

Fire mission

Grid · Target · Rounds

"Fire mission, grid E5-9-1, infantry in the open, three rounds HE."

Say "splash" when the rounds are about to land, and correct from the impacts: "Add 50, left 20."

Squad Leader

Voice is required. You place the FOBs and give the orders.

Talk to the other Squad Leaders so squads aren't working against each other.

Medic

Revives before kills. Always carry a medkit.

Logistics

Sustained pushes live or die on supplies. Plan the runs with your Squad Leader.

Rifleman

Follow the Squad Leader, hold your position, and call out every contact.
